A place to write
It is exciting as I begin a new blog ...
I always enjoyed a blog as a great form of communication in a world of short sharp communications.
This morning, I was finishing some work on the French Rabbits that seem to have taken me over in some sense and needed to talk more on the how to without making a " paper pattern"
*****
I have used the French rabbit as a button for years and drawn a few story rabbits at Christmas a few years ago,,.
The French Rabbits were selected for a paint class in March 2025 at Hey Sunday gift store in Cohuna.
I began to redraw on what I selected to tutor painting.
I drew 2 sets of rabbits on 300 gsm rough watercolour paper and penned them in with a pen that does not run when adding water to it !
One was for painting then cutting out and gluing a stick so the bunny would make an addition to a flower arrangement, pot plant etc.
I also drew on small pieces fabric, calico that has a load of sizing in it, to allow the paint to stay put !
Each one was drawn with same rabbit but different scenes of them going into Paris for a spring shopping time.
This took me to drawing a "book" of this story as it came to mind as I drew....then painted and it was as an example of what could be continued if anyone in the class might want to at home alone.
I showed the book to a colleague and promptly had an order.
And since then another 2 have been commissioned.

I also thought for others who paint or stitch these illustrations were perfect..and so drew a set on my loved watercolour paper...and now I need to set them hopping...
Each design is unique and has a piece of me in each one as well as the words that flow along behind each rabbit story.
This is a look into what can be done with the illustrations that will go onto my website www.theodoracleave.com very soon
In the picture below among the illustrations and the painted fabric and i see a wood button ( not included but sold separately.) Is the stitching example that is actually from a garden series of stitcheries some years back but it shows how the change of medium brings a new beginning for the rabbits.
Not only could you paint a book or stitch a book, you could make a quilt or bunny rug around one image or all of them....
One or let's do 2 to frame ...or make a gift bag or purse where the rabbit would be happy.
Buying the illustrations does not give you copyright that is what I own until 70 years after my demise !!! However I give permission for the buyer to enlarge of shrink the images and work them in different scenes as a one off...but remember sometimes enlarging makes the images ugly and same for shrinking.
Is the stitching
